Maxwell S. Pfeifer is a life-long resident of the Bronx and the founder of the Law Office of Maxwell S. Pfeifer in 1949.
He is a graduate of New York University School of Law where he was awarded the second University prize scholarship and was on the Dean's Honor list.
Long active in the Trial of Personal Injury actions on behalf of plaintiffs, he achieved one of the highest pre-trial settlements in the history of the ninth judicial district, twenty seven million two hundred thousand dollars ($27,200,000.00). He also obtained the first million dollar jury award in a products liability case in the Bronx.
The broad spectrum of his experience includes the representation of plaintiffs in all types of lawsuits involving personal injury. He is regularly consulted by other lawyers who refer personal injury cases to him.
He is the recipient of a special honor, given him by the Bronx County Bar Association, which named its law library in his honor, located in the Bronx County Courthouse. He is also the first recipient of the special recognition award of the Black Bar Association of Bronx County.
He has served as President of the New York State Bar Association, the largest voluntary State Bar Association in the Country. He also served as President of the Bronx County Bar Association and chair of Network of Bar Leaders, a Consortium of Local Bar Associations, as well, as Chair of the New York State Bar Trial Lawyers Section.
His Bar Association activities have also involved his being chair and member of committees reviewing judges qualifications for appointment and election at the Federal, State and City levels; and he currently chairs the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Judicial selection reviewing the qualifications of judges designated by the Governor as candidates for appointment to the Court of Appeals, New York State's highest court.
Upon his ascendancy to the presidency of the New York State Bar Association in June 1995, the Borough President of the Bronx declared that day "Maxwell S. Pfeifer Day" in his honor.
He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the B.A.S.E. program of the archdiocese of the City of New York, on the Bronx community college paralegal advisory committee and as a director of the New York City Industrial Development Agency.
He is also a member of the State Bar of Florida.
